Ever lit a fire and in your usual way using wax coils or firelighters just to come back and find it’s snuffed out?
Especially if you are dumping more unlit fuel on top which can just starve all the oxygen and suffocate the flames. Well there is an answer and you’d be surprised how simple it is but, as with many simple things it’s also super effective. Well let us introduce you to the Blazaball.
It really is as simple as a two piece metal cage that you will with your igniter of choice, twist back together and bury in your fuel. The cage essentially keeps a pocket of oxygen around your ignition source and more air and oxygen means a stronger burn. Science.
This method works especially well for longer cooks where you may need a smaller amount of fuel burning and then pour over a lot more that will catch gradually through the cook. The website lists the following
Blazaballs are made from stainless steel. They can be used in Stoves, BBQs, Ceramic Grills, Fire Pits & even Wild Camp Fires. It’s as easy as 1,2,3…
- Place your fire lighters inside the blazaball.
- Rotate the two sides clockwise until they lock into position.
- Light the fire lighters and place your wood or coals on top. Watch the fire take off, it’s that easy
It really is as simple as that. Ideal for if you are limited on space for kit as they take up way less space than a chimney starter for example. In fact, it’s so good it’s been winning a whole host of design awards recently. The Blazaball website also has a blog section where you can read about the upcoming US TV show they will be featured on looking at innovative products.
As you can see from my pictures I have used my Blazaball in a number of different cookers and using a number of different fuel types. As you would imagine taking a lot of heat the Blazaball wont always stay as shiny as the day you got it but that just shows it’s had some use and love.

For the sake of transparency, I was sent the Blazaball as a gift to review but I am fully entitled to make and document my own opinions on the product.
Looks like a great product pal and with my 10 year old chimney start about to give up the ghost I think it’s time for an upgrade.
