Review of Pig & Pallet Topsham

I first visited the Pig & Pallet on the quay at Topsham last year when it was first opened even before they got their hard worked for food licence. It’s been great following their journey, and I wanted to visit now they are in full flow.

It’s a great location right by the boats in Topsham, in an old sail loft, it’s fitted out with pallets, and has a really great feel, I know the guys did a lot of the work themselves, and they should be justifiably proud.

There is even a built in Salumiere for drying their charcuterie. I went along at lunchtime, so the lunch menu was available, variations on sandwiches mostly. But really really good ones…

I went for a Devon Ruby Reuben (£10.50) smoked devon ruby pastrami, swiss cheese, beetroot, pickles and mayo as a triple decker, with fries and slaw. It was soooo good, a lovely smoke in the pastrami balanced nicely with the swiss cheese and the beetroot was an inspired touch, great fries and slaw, a really great meal. They do great unpretentious filter coffee in a mug which I like.

It’s a really kid friendly place, and the staff made me and my youngest feel very welcome, when you eat here you feel part of something really special. I love it that there is a working smoker out from, so the first thing you get when you walk in the front door is a waft of smoke and meat cooking on the well used offset smoker. I look forward to coming back to try the evening menu soon.

Nice work guys.
