Traeger Ranger Grill

October 20, 2020 by admin · Leave a Comment

The Traeger Ranger is one of the smallest pellet grills out there, it packs down into a large briefcase sized shell with a handle which makes it pretty transportable. I found it a lot of fun to cook on, with some great results.

With a nice even heat, it can get up to roasting and searing temperatures, I found it excellent for searing off 12 maximum burgers at one time, with a nice even heat using the plancha. I was able to cook a wide range of food, from low and slow, you can just get a couple of racks of baby back ribs in, up to full searing for a few steaks.

Pop the lid down and the high temperatures make it easy to melt the cheese onto a cheeseburger, and I found cooking them like this the burgers stay lovely and juicy.

The pellet hopper holds enough wood pellets for a good few cooks, lighting and temperature control is very easy, and it’s nice and responsive, the smoke levels are really good for such a small grill. I did get one slight flare up from the grease escaping from the plancha and running down near the firepot, but that was me pushing it to the extreme to test it.

It runs off mains, so if you are taking it away camping or similar with no mains supply you’ll need a portable power generator like one of these https://amzn.to/3m0KVwo

This option adds another couple of hundred quid, but should last for a fair amount of cooking time, as the power draw on these is pretty low.

A 12V option would be good to have to make it more easy to use to run off a car battery when you are away

Overall I really have been enjoying cooking on this little grill. For under £500 it’s definitely a good grill to have as part of your fire arsenal.

I was sent the grill to try but was free to give my opinion
